I'm sure you've heard many opinions on this matter, but the truth is, after being in ODU's dental hygiene program, I've truly seen the extent of this job I one day wish to have.  Being in this program is a lot of work, and for good reason: we are to be trusted with the oral health of our patients.  We are tested meticulously and most importantly put to the ultimate test by taking the Boards to become certified.  Without this extensive training, I think care provided would be less than exceptional, which is what we are being trained to provide.  Therefore, I urge the matter of allowing dental assistants to scale to be put down.  I think it is best for the patients we are serving.  Thank you for your time.
