SAY "NO" TO A LEVEL II DENTAL ASSISTANT

During my 18 years as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the state of Virginia I have tried hard to educate my patients in the over all value of receiving excellent dental care.  I have taught them to value their existing dentition and to replace missing teeth with implants not “partials” or “dentures”.

Ever since becoming a hygienist in this state it seems as though our profession takes two steps forward while the Board of Dentistry starts to pull on the tails of our scrubs and takes us three steps back.

Is a Level II Dental Assistant about access to care or is it about “quick prophies” and fast returns? Do not jeopardize the residents of the Commonwealth by lowering the Standard of Care that they are accustomed to. Say NO to a “trained” Level II Dental Assistant.
