I am opposed to the inclusion of scaling in the DAII program.  Yes, the hygiene salaries are approaching a level that makes it very difficult to "break even" on hygiene services, but shame on you proponents that feel that compromising patient care is the way to combat this.  I am very disappointed in the number of dentists that use the argument of hygiene salary to legitimize their stance.  With the continued research and knowledge that links periodontal health to overall systemic health, how can we expect these assistants with limited education in both root form/anatomy as well as hygiene instruction and communication to provide the highest standard of care that we wish for our own families.  PLEASE keep our profession respected and not just another business trying to cut corners to make a profit.....these are people's lives we are caring for- not just their teeth!
