I strongly oppose the proposal to limit LPC licensure to CACREP-accredited programs. This would preclude alternative accreditations for the Licensed Professional Counselor credential. Applicants should be judged based on their coursework, supervised clinical experience, and ability to pass the LPC exam. No other criteria serve the mental health needs of the people in this state. Specifically, no one has yet made a sound and compelling argument that master's programs in Clinical Psychology cannot meet or exceed the training standards established for CACREP accreditation. The argument hasn't been made becacause it can't be made.
