I don't think this is a good idea

I would like the people deciding this to think about why there is schooling for dental hygienists right now.

This was passed at some point because dentists thought a dental hygienist would benefit their practice with the proper SCHOOLING (not training). Would an assistant be looked at as a “respected health care provider”?

As a patient I would like to see dentistry progress but in my mind this is regressing.

Up until now a DEGREE was needed to scale teeth. I see it is only for supragingival but come on that is just a cop out to have the assistants do the whole cleaning. If they can't go under the gums with anything how will they know I have calculus there? They are supposed to tell the dentist about my calculus under my gums right? Innless the dentist want to take extra time to check it would be left? This would not be more efficient. This is going to give your patients less quality of care.

I don't like this idea one bit. Please do not allow this to happen. It is all around a bad idea.
