As a current dental hygiene student I feel that allowing dental assistants to perform scaling duties would be an injustice to the patient!  Patients are trusting in us as dental healthcare professionals to maintain the highest standards of care.  As a former expanded duties dental assistant I know that the training and education the DAII's will receive will not adequately prepare them for the duties that they would be expected to perform.  It is our obligation to provide quality dental care to the Commonwealth of Virginia and it should not be sacrificed for quantity.
