Oppose DH II

Oppose Scaling by DA II

Two important priorities for all patients should be there safety and over all welfare.  This proposed regulation is of great concern because it comprises both of these important priorities.  The education involved in learning how to scale teeth is very thorough and in depth.  An individual has to complete a certain amount of clinic hours and pass lecture courses covering specific topics.

As a dental hygiene student at Old Dominion University, I have learned that the advancement of periodontal disease is more than scaling calculus alone.  The mechanical removal of calculus involves a thorough educational background in tooth anatomy, progression of periodontal disease, and instrumentation.  Learning how to use instruments is very important and takes lots of practice and understanding.

We should focus on providing the best quality of care for our patients.
