I have worked in dentistry since 1978 and have seen lots of changes in dentistry, many which were good.  However, I do not agree with allowing dental assistants to scale supragingival calculus.  Are we trying to do what is best for the patients or are we trying to make more money by paying out less to an assistant vs. a hygienist.  We need to understand the motivation behind this decision..
