No to DAII

Although I am not involved in dentistry, I am involved in the medical field. We have educational levels for all of medicine that are dictated by the amount of education the practitioner has received. As education increases, so does accountability. I want a professional physician to do my surgery, a professional nurse to access my IVs, an assistant to assist me with tasks, and an educated RDH to scale my teeth.

The time scaling a patient's teeth is not idly spent, it is a time for education by the hygienist, who is properly credentialed to educate patients on issues related to dental health.  I see this as an opportunity for insurance companies to decrease the reimbursement for procedures done in the office, just as they have done with other professional services in medicine.

I say no to DA II ability to scale-not that some of them don't have the ability-they just don't have the credentials. If they want the credentials-go to dental hygiene school and work to get them!
