Dear Board members:

Please do not allow the change to the Regulations to allow dental assistants to scale teeth.  This change will do nothing to alleviate the perceived shortage of oral hygiene services and will reduce the standard of care in the state of Virginia.  There is no need for a tiered level of care.  Especially one with low educational standards which jeopardize patient safety.. 

A prophy tech's is inappropriate for the general public which need to receive comprehensive preventive oral hygiene care, which is a service every patient in private practice should be afforded.

Please consider the safety of the patient when making your decisions.
