This is just a bad idea all around.  Would you trust your hygienist to do a crown in your mouth?  This is the same idea.

Scaling takes years of training and is by no means the same as removing the extra cement from a crown. 

Burnished calculus....such fun to remove for the next person who actually knows what they are doing...not to mention the damage it does over the years!
