No to expanded duty scaling for dental assistants

Please do not allow dental assistants to start scaling as an expanded duty.   Although I have seen comments about allowing them to do only supragingival scaling on type 1 patients, how exactly will this be determined?  The majority of patients seen, including children, have some type of subgingival calculus present ,especially on the mandibular anteriors, or inflammation.  This means subgingival scaling and periodontal  probing.  All patients should be afforded the opportunity to see the dental hygienist for oral maintenance because that was the job we were specifically trained to do.
