I speak against delegating scaling duties of a Class I (or any class) Perio patient to a dental assistant.  These patients deserve the educational level and professional skills of a licensed dental hygienist or dentist.

While I support expanded duties for certified dental assistants who have additional education, I do not support adding scaling to those duties.
