Commenter: Debi Lester, Patient, Supportive Mother of DH Student

No to this proposed action

Please do not cut corners here.

As the mother of a dental hygiene student, I have watched my daughter put her whole life on hold for the attainment of her certification to be able to perform these procedures. She has gone without sleep, drove 1 1/2 hours each way at least four days a week for the last two years to be able to EARN the education and right to treat a dental patient professionally and accurately. She has poured over books, sweated over tests, cheerleaded and cooperated with fellow DH students at all hours forming independent study groups, secured loans to pay for this privilege and put all on the line in order to attain her certification.

She has put in the time and effort to be professionally licensed to improve and maintain the oral health of individuals. If others want the same privilege, they should pay the same price. I can hardly believe the extent of the material my daughter has learned in the past two years. It has made me quite aware of the importance of oral health. It affects so many other aspects of general well-being.  My daughter is very thorough and makes sure everything is as it should be. I know she takes excellent care of all her patients.

You can bet nobody but my baby is going to be working on my teeth!

Committee member, would you personally settle for less for yourself and your family?
