I am strongly opposed to a DA II being allowed to scale supra or subging.  I appreciate all of the above comments by concerned patients, RDHs, DAs and Drs.  I have been practicing hygiene for 15 years with the same dentist and I love my job.  I am proud to be a dental hygienist.  My patients appreciate me as a hygienist and a friend.  They trust me.  I think it is only fair that all Virginia patients have a relationship with their hygienist like my patients have with me.  Patients in underserved areas of the state like Southwestern Virginia where I am from do not deserve to be treated differently.  They have every right to be seen by an educated, trained dental hygienist not an assistant.  I would have gladly practiced in Southwestern VA if there had been a job there for me.  There was one dentist in the county looking for a hygienist for one day a week.  I couldn't support my family working only one day a week.
