As an experienced dental hygienist of 26 years, I am shocked and saddened that our profession is being demeaned in this way. Just exactly who makes the judgement as to which patient has "just a little tartar to scale supragingivally or just 1mm subgingivally? I can't tell you how many times over the years I've had a patient that initially appeared to be a class I patient and turned out to have deep, tenatious deposits. This proposal is absurd and would be a detriment to the dental profession as a whole. Interestingly enough, the RDH has more actual training in scaling than the DDS. Now we're going to delegate to the assistant?? I say NO WAY!!!!!
