I totally disagree with DA2! From my past experience as a dental assistant I know that the avergage Joe off the street can become a dental assistant. Most dental offices in Va draw the line between RDH and a dental assistant. I am currently a dental hygiene student at MCV in Richmond, Va. Throughout my journey at MCV I have experienced heavy course loads suchas, indepth information on oral health, and patient care. Not to mention the indepth coursework with perio. Dental assistants are good for many things but not to take the place of an RDH.
