I strongly disagree with allowing a Dental Assistant II the ability to scale teeth. They are not properly trained and a 6 month training course will not be adequate. Everyone is trying to cut cost today. I do not want the Health and Denistry industries to follow suit. This is still the U.S. of America, not a 3rd world country. We still deserve the same care provided by a Dental Hygenist and not a lesser knowledgable Assistant just to save a dollar. If this is passed what happens to the Dental Hygenists that made the sacrafices and attended a 4 year college. If we allow this today who is to say that the Denist himself may be jeopardizing his own future. Maybe Walmart will open a Ready Dentistry and have Dental Assistants do it all.
