Reading through the comments, it seems clear that those favoring the change believe current regulations allow students to make "life and death" decisions regarding patients. Nothing could be further from the truth. Current regulations require direct and immediate supervision of students by a licensed veterinarian or technician. This has served the public well by ensuring all patient care is in accordance with best practices and the law, and served the profession well by providing "hands on" experience for students who in time become licensed in their own right. Adding another layer of paperwork will harm those future licensed personnel while adding no benefit or protection to the public, and therefore no changes should be made.
