I do not support the initiative to allow dental assistants to perform scaling.  The public depends on the discretion and wisdom of the Board to weigh the pros and cons of proposals.  The cons far outweigh any pros in this proposal.  The formal and clinical education of registered dental hygienists is extensive in periodontal training.  To allow anything less is permitting the patient to receive substandard care.   Do not allow this proposal to pass.
