I am against the new proposal for allowing dental assistants to scale supra or sub gingivally.  Hygienist are trained and tested to perform this tedious task over a two year period.  If an assistant wants to have these duties, they need to also be trained to probe, look for pathology, evaluate parafuntional habits, dietary issues, and much more.  Therefore, they need to attend dental hygiene school and become a Hygienist!
