I feel that when I go to the dentist, I want someone who has been trained to clean my teeth.  Most of the gum disease that shows up is below the gum line and if your teeth are not cleaned correctly, then you are asking for trouble.  I would really prefer to have a trained, professional hygenist taking care of me.  I say no to allowing an assistant to clean my teeth.
