As a patient, it deeply disturbs me that these measures are being proposed.  THere is no way that the standard of care would not be compromised by allowing dental assistants to scale teeth.  The dentist never spends more than 3 minutes in the room checking my teeth after they have been cleaned and examined by the hygienist, are they going to spending more time with me examining my periodontal condition and looking for decay?  I hardly believe that they will.  If this is the new standard of care for patients, then we need a new board of dentistry, with people on it who exercise good judgement and common sense.  There needs to be a statewide announcement to all, that they should ask their dental offices if their cleanings are going to be done by an assistant or a licensed dental hygienist.  I will not allow any assistant to scale my teeth or any of my family members teeth.  THAT MEANS NO!!

DO NOT PASS THE PROPOSAL FOR DA 1 OR DAII WITH REGARDS TO ANY SCALING!!!
