Dental Hygienists go through a very intense, thorough and rigorous training in college to be able to competently scale a patient above and below the gumline during a prophy.  A dental assistant (which does not have to have a college degree) with very minimal training would compromise the safety of the patient and the profession of the dental hygienist!  Please say no to this ridiculous idea!
