It has come to my attention that Dentists within the state of Virginia are asking their professional body to allow Dental Assistance the opportunity to perform scaling of patients teeth.  This issue troubles me in that there is NO formal didactic or clinical instruction afforded these individuals.  To allow them to perform this duty would put the professional organization, both dentistry and dental hygiene, at risk.  I STRONGLY oppose this course of action!
