I completely disagree with Dr. Bruce Hutchison's opinion/post and all the other posts that are in favor. Bottomline here is that the dentist wants to make more money! That is ALL this is about. What right exactly does the dentist have to say that the class I perio patient be seen by an assistant versus a hygienist? Do we really think the patients are going to be in favor of this?  Are we saying they are going to be charged differently? No I didn't think so. What will really happen is the patient will be charged the same amount and the dentist will make more profit. That is what all this is about....more profit for the dentist. I am a hygienist and I am completely insulted that the board of dentistry would ever consider doing this and all but throwing our education out the window.  The stand of care will lessen. There is no getting around it.
