As a patient I do not feel comfortable with a dental assistant performing a scaling. The dentist who has more education should be the person who performs scaling at all times. An infectiion can easily be caused and can turn into a possible deadly issue.

Dental assistants are to help set up rooms, break them down, sterilize instruments and assist the dentist. The assistants do not have the education or knowledge to perform scaling on any patients.
