In Support

I strongly support this new bill. With it, under supervision of vets, students will be able to gain valuable experience practicing various procedures so that when we do them on our own as a vet we are more prepared and more skilled. I have seen various comments from pet owners saying they don't want their animals to be poked and prodded by students unecessarily which would increase stress for their pets. This is very understandable and certainly what we as vets and vet students have as our #1 priority but this bill serves to decrease the amount of stress your pets are put under for the sake of their care in the long term. Also, so you know, it's not just the students who sometimes have difficulties doing various procedures. Even the most experienced vets sometime have a difficult time drawing blood (or any other procedure) from an animal for various reasons (difficult veins, dehydrated, thick skin, uncooperative animal etc.) and therefore must "poke and prod" more than once with a needle to get blood. The veterinary communitie's number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of your animals and without more practice students will not be as prepared as vets to uphold this priority.
