I do not agree with this proposal. Students should not be allowed to practice on animals before their 4th year. If students do not feel well prepared by the time they are in their fourth year then a change needs to be made in the classroom education side of their studies. Would you like to have a physician open you up and use you to learn in his/her first or second year of studies?
Having a licensed vet supervise is no guarantee that procedures will be done properly and humanely. Just because you are a vet does not mean that you will put the animals welfare first. Animals should not be subjected to this and pet owners would decline if they were informed. I don't know if the only source of animals are pets being brought in but NO animal should be used until their fourth year. If a third year student proposed this then HE is the one that did not learn from his classroom instruction. Even student estheticains do not work on live subjects until they have completed classroom studies.and you want to subject animals to this?
Please reconsider this proposal.
Sincerely,
Constance Anders
