Better Skills, Competent Veterinarian

Currently, regulation does not allow students prior to their fourth year of veterinary school to gain hands on experience with animals. The veterinary industry is very complex, and the cases that a senior student sees in a years time will never encompass what they will truly see in their veterinary career. Many students learn better from hands on experience rather than observation, and most of the human population learns better this way as well. I believe that by changing regulation to allow all veterinary students gain valuable hands on veterinary experience would lead to more competent veterinarians upon graduation. The quality of animal care would be greater, and I believe it would instill the confidence that many graduates lack in order to treat patients successfully. I am not asking that students have complete freedom to treat pets on their own, only more freedom to assist a veterinarian in procedures. Thank-you.
