NO TO DAII scaling

As a certified dental assistant of 15yrs before obtaining my BSDH I strongly oppose scaling for DAII. Our type one perio scaling is a time of education not just cleaning. Can a dental assistant piece together the symptoms in a 19yr old with great hygiene who is bleeding during scaling and has edema on her hard palate? Will a dental assistant know to strongly encourage her to see a physician who, in this case, found acute leukemia? How about the young men with type I perio who are dipping tobacco? Will the DAII see the signs and know how to educate this patient? All of our great DDS's know the time constraints during their exams. Your hygienist is the patient's first line of defense from their first visit at 2yrs old until their last visit at 102yrs old or older.  This change would benefit the practice not the patient.
