The need for increased oversight of Medicaid services is understandable due to the increasing cost over the years. There is a need for increased monitoring to ensure that services are provided according to the standards set. The increase of documentation for MHSS may cause a delay in services and may also exclude individuals in need of MHSS.
Any savings received to the DMAS system due to the reduction in rate for service, should be considered to be applied back to the mental health system to assist building a more robust mental health service system, with additional supportive services to include: additional funding for crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, crisis call centers, peer support programs and integrated primary care and behavioral health services.
