I oppose this petition

The Licensed Professional Counselor designation denotes a specific training and skills in someone who has at least a masters degree from a Counseling degree program.  These programs have specific courses designed to help students develop the identity of a professional counselor.  These criteria are distinct from other courses which are focused on other professional identities.  Students graduating with a masters degree in Psychology do not have the same set of courses nor the same professional identity as Professional Counselors.  Allowing the Board of Counseling to license people with masters degrees in areas other than Counseling, violates the integrity of the profession of Licensed Professional Counselor. I suggest that the petitioner petition the Board of Psychology to develop an appropriate licensure designation for graduates who have a masters in Psychology degree.  I strongly urge the board to deny this peition.
