I oppose giving LPC licensure to those who do not have Professional Counseling training and credenti

I understand there are those who desire to be licensed as a professional counselors whose training has been in other areas of psychology. The academic requirements for a counselinng degree in Virginia are high and the training requirements for licensure are stringent. Allowing those who have different training requirements and less stringent requirements to carry the same licensure will dilute the quality of our professional identity and the lower the quality of the service that LPCs provide. If people wish to be licensened as professional counselors, they should receive education and training in a certified counseling program.
