My name is Krissie Prestarri and I live in the Oxford House Redeemed in Christiansburg Va. Or house is a womens house that is self-governed and I moved in my house in July 2025 and I came straight from treatment. It has changed my life and I am now a responsible citizen. We do not have any paid staff but we elect officers, we pay our bills and we pay our rent. I work a full time job and I work on my recovery every day. I have the support of the women I live with and I am currently the secretary and coordinator. The core of the Oxford House is that it is democratically run. We elect our own officers and we hold each other accountable to strict standards of sobriety. It has restored my sense of worth and I am now responsible for myself and I have the love and support of the women in my house. Democracy has taught recovering individuals how to live as productive members of society.

We operate without paid staff or any government funding. My Oxford House saved my life and I love living here and I don't know where I would be without it.
