Hello, I'm writing to let you know exactly what my Oxford House has done for myself and others like me. Oxford House has been crucial to my recovery and saving my life. We are self supporting and self run houses. Being self run has taught me so much about being a productive and responsible part of society. I knewnothing of writing checks, balancing checkbooks or paying bills on time. But because I live in an Oxford House it was part of my duties to learn. Requiring all recovery houses to have a business license and full-time staff will cause my home and others to shut down leaving many of us homeless. The Oxford House model has been successfully saving lives for 50 years. We are a family that reaches across our country and further. Our houses are peer based and self supporting. We work hard to help ourselves and others wanting to quit using and drinking and stay quit. With the help of the Oxford houses in my area, along with my 12 step program, I just celebrated three years of clean time. And in October ill be celebrating three years of living in an Oxford House. Which is another beautiful point to make; there are no time limits on our beds. As long as we are following the rules, doing our part and paying our share of expenses, we are never asked to leave. Our goal is to expand to keep helping others. To provide safe stable sober living places for the people who need it. Please, vote no on requiring staff and business licenses. Oxford House is not a business. Oxford House is my home.
