My Oxford Success Story!

My name is April Maxwell I have been a resident of Raleigh Court Oxford House in Roanoke Virginia since April 2026 (But have been in 2 other Oxford Houss in the past 5 years). My house position is comptroller and chore coordinator. I am also Chapter 21's HSCC. Oxford has been a big part of my life for a long time. This is a little bit of my success story, I hope it impacts at least one person today... Enjoy!

Coming back to Oxford House after being kicked out for a relapse has given me a second chance I don't take for granted. I was welcomed back after getting clean, and since then I've had the opportunity to rebuild trust, take on more responsibility, and grow in ways I never thought possible. Oxford has given me something I struggled to have for most of my life: a stable home where I can learn to live independently while being surrounded by women who understand what I'm going through and aren't afraid to hold me accountable. I've learned how to pay bills, manage responsibilities, show up for others, and, most importantly, show up for myself. After years of instability, addiction, and being in and out of jail, I am now able to say that I have a 13 months clean, even while facing the heartbreaking loss of my 20 year old son, Andrew, four days after Christmas. I am incredibly grateful for Oxford House, NA, my family, and the women I live with for helping me become the woman I am today. I truly believe the structure and accountability of Oxford House are working, and I hope my story shows what can happen when someone is given the opportunity to come back, rebuild trust and grow.

Best Regards,
