Hi, I live in Oxford housing. How Oxford housing differs from other recovery housing is that it is ran autonomously. It was a vision input but Paul Malloy who saw an affordable model that he could implement and spread to other recovery addicts/alcoholics. When we come to Oxford house we are given strength, faith and hope to rely on others who are in the same boat we are. We have a system of running our own books, doing our own chores, and holding each other accountable.
We go from being derelict deadbeats to responsible adults. If Oxford housing were done away with you would be setting back hundreds of thousands of people in recovery who would think they can't do it on their own because they now have a single person in the house to baby them, to order them---- as opposed to figuring out how to fend for themselves and being held accountable by their house peers.
Oxford isn't for the faint of heart, but the model works. There are decades of data by Depaul University that exhibit this. Please reconsider what you are doing to affect so many lives by this bill.
