I have been living in an Oxford House located in Williamsburg, VA for over 3-1/2 years. I've been able to have great success in my recovery with absolutely no relapse in any way. I've been sober and clean for exactly the same amount of time that I've been living here. the house is ran on a democratic basis, giving everyone in my house a say in all matters, regardless of how long they've been here. everyone's vote counts the same. All of the members of the house that I live with, have become like family. We all hold each other accountable for our actions  once a week we all get together for our weekly house meeting. Nearly every member of the house holds a position, a treasurer, secretary, comptroller, president and a chore coordinator. Each member in our house takes their position seriously. there is no, one, person in charge. This model has a proven tract record of being a  very successful tool for people in recovery. There are 6 houses in our chapter and each house is experiencing the same results. I know this because once/mo., all of the houses come together for a chapter meeting.

  Please do not consider the oxford houses a business, as nobody in the house is on any type of payroll. We are totally self supporting and we want to keep it that way.
