There is no risk of harm with allowing assistants to clean teeth. Of course more technical procedures like scaling and root planing should be left to trained hygienists as that takes a certain level of expertise and knowledge/training that is beyond what a basic course can teach. Assistants are capable of using other instruments in the mouth that if cleaning is dangerous, what they are doing currently is more dangerous. Obviously it isn’t as they are trained professionals.
