this new law is going to allow inadequate care for the people of Virginia. You can’t scale only above the gums and call that a regular dental cleaning. A regular dental cleaning goes 3mm below the gum line too. Allowing this new law is going to negatively affect Virginians and their oral health by only doing “half cleanings.” This will lead to rapid gum disease across the population as well as insurance fraud. There are better ways to address the hygienist shortage than lowering the standard of care. Lowering the standard of care should never be the answer!
