Look at what the residents do at Vanguard Landing.
I wanted to put in a personal note about my interactions with Vanguard Landing. I am a mother of a resident and a volunteer artist in residence at Vanguard. For the last couple of months, I have come once a week to work on an Octopus mural (the above picture) with the residents. I have given the residents the tile, stone and shells and they place it in different sections. I am there all day and they come when they want, stay as long as they want and do as much as they want to do. Sometimes it's a group, sometimes two or even one. I can say that every resident has participated to the degree they want to. This is the product of their work.
This is how everything works at Vanguard. There is choice, there is creativity, there is capability and there is beauty in their work. I don't know of any place that offers that. I am not saying that this is the model for everyone, but it is a model that my son will thrive in. It's been such an honor working with them.
