Jack's story began in rural upstate New York, where people with disabilities often face limited services, fewer peer connections, and reduced job opportunities. My wife and I wanted to find a community where Jack could thrive and build a meaningful life on his own terms. Our search went far beyond online research—we spent countless hours driving across the country, visiting communities and exploring the regions around them. Together with Jack, we narrowed our choices and took a road trip to experience each place firsthand. When Jack visited Vanguard Landing, he knew he'd found where he wanted to be, and that choice has opened doors we all hoped to find.

Since arriving, Jack has embraced the activities, outings, and the caring support of the staff. He's also discovered a local church that resonates with him and has gained independence through using Uber to pursue his own interests—attending minor league baseball games, dining at restaurants, visiting Ocean Breeze Water Park, and attending services at his church.

His cottage offers a spacious, bright room filled with natural light, a private bathroom, and a closet my wife admires. The living space represents a meaningful improvement from his previous home. The cottage also features a common living room and dining area for socializing. Jack can choose to cook in his cottage kitchen or enjoy a short walk to the gathering place, where he has access to three nutritious meals daily.

Parents of people with disabilities naturally worry about their children's futures, knowing we won't always be present to support them. Communities like Vanguard Landing ease these concerns because they genuinely feel like places where our children can flourish and belong. Jack has found that home.
