Request to include Sociology and Criminal Justice degrees as allowable degrees for QMHP certification.
Both Sociology and Criminal Justice degrees provide foundational knowledge in areas directly relevant to mental health service provision.
These disciplines train to assess, engage with, and support individuals with behavioral, psychological, and socio-legal challenges; skills that directly align with the scope of QMHP responsibilities.
There are times when there is an intersection with the criminal justice system and community-based services; including these degrees can expand the workforce knowledge base to best support our community. Also considering the number of forensic admissions to the state hospitals, allowing sociology and criminal justice may offer perspectives that can positively influence individual circumstances as well as the system as a whole.
Including these degrees can expand the pool of qualified professionals.
