Oppose Bill

As a dog hunter we tend to have a plan before turning out our hounds to try and ensure that they stay on the land that we have permission from landowners to hunt/ be present on. But when the dogs pursue a piece of game whether it is a deer, bear, fox, etc. we never know where the chase will end up, and the dogs surely do not know if they are entering posted land. As dog hunters if our dogs get on land that we cannot be on our hunt is put on hold, which means we try and keep our dogs off of the land we can't be on.

As for dog hunters around the state we want to keep peace with other hunters and the community, if this bill is passed then it will result in more phone calls/ complaints from landowners just when they see a dog anywhere and do our DWR officers have enough time to report to each call about a hunting dog entering property that it will probably pass through the piece of land within the hour or less, nor do we have the amount of DWR officers on staff. Most of the hound hunter and landowner disputes over a dog can be handled in a responsible manner just by getting the dog off the property and no need for legal actions to be taken place.

The passing of this bill will result in more of a headache to our DWR officers and if it is passed it will be more of a shutdown of the long heritage of hound hunting which will result in less hunters buying licenses cutting funds that are used for Virgina wildlife conservation.
