The federal government's action to terminate these enhancements leaves many who depend on such programs with a new gap in monthly income. This gap may be filled by skipping meals and prescriptions or being late on bills. The Commonwealth should consider deploying a "soft landing" for previously qualified students who have lost benefits due to this change. It is difficult to quantify the problem without data on how many Virginia students are impacted.
