menhaden fishery

To whom it may concern, my name is Brian Perkinson and I a small business owner and avid outdoorsman who used to enjoy spending time chasing Striped Bass in the Chesapeake Bay.  Unfortunately there is little to no use in recent years to pursue this wonderful gamefish due to the policies protecting Omega and their harvest techniques I now travel to states like New Jersey and New York who have listened to the taxpayer who supports this fishery. Both sates have banned menhaden capturing techniques within 3 miles of shore which have resulted in WORLD CLASS fishing for not only the striped bass but several other fish. I am shocked that the commonwealth turns their heads at this subject,  I will gladly spend the money in other states to show my children what it CAN be like to have a fishery that is healthy and supports a wide range of industries.  In recent years I have culminated a group of friends who travel with me to fish in these two states several times a year which  has resulted in approx $68,000 in expenses in just the small group of people I fish with.  I would hope that the state of Virginia can learn from other states successes and prove to the citizens they listen to the taxpayer and not the one corporation who sucks the Chesapeake Bay dry of its resources.

Respectfully,

Brian Perkinson
