Stop indescriminate Purse-Seining in inshore waters

As a charter captain and fishing guide, I strongly oppose the use of purse-seines in any depth of water, let alone depths less than 60 feet. This practice has a tremendously negative effect on stock numbers of nearshore species such as red drum, striped bass, and many other species that fishing communities around the country rely upon to make ends meat. These resources belong to the citizens and taxpayers of the United States, not private corporations who exploit and abuse them for profit, with no regard for the damages they incur upon local fisheries and businesses. We are seeing how mismanagement of our marine resources is taking a toll on coastal communities around the country, from no oyster harvests in parts of Texas and Apalachicola, to warm water algae discharges from Lake Okeechobee killing off untold numbers of marine life, corporate interests are destroying our coastal fisheries before our very eyes. Smarten up while we still have something to save. End purse-seining, period.
