Parents of Minors as Caregivers

As the parent of 2 minor children challenged with autism and being relatively new to Virginia, it has been very difficult finding proper care for my children. To make matters worse, the agency did not provide a facilitator for the past 6 months due to staffing and we've experienced lapses in my children's reauthorizations 3 times (and possibly going on a fourth if everything isn't resolved by the end of September). With this situation, we lost a caregiver and I have been placed between a rock and hard place because as a single mother, it's been extremely difficult balancing everything. Furthermore, I'm concerned for our safety because if someone isn't paid for hours they've actually worked, it puts me in a very compromising situation for my entire family. When I asked our facilitator two years ago if I could be the caregiver for my children, I was told no. I've since received conflicting information regarding this. What measures are in place for parents/caregivers to receive consistent correct information? Please reconsider your policies and not add more stress on parents who are already faced with ongoing challenges daily. We need to have the ability to care for our own children and do so via a seamless procedure without jumping through hoops and being denied a basic, human request.
