Preserve Religious Freedom

  • The April 20, 2011 State Board of Social Services decision to uphold the fundamental right of faith-based agencies to continue their wonderful work without misguided governmental intrusion into the practice of their faith. The approved provion correctly prohibits acts of discrimination based on race, color, or national origin to: (1) Delay or deny a child's placement; or (2) Deny an individual the opportunity to become a foster or adoptive parent." This provision is based on a most sound and histroically viable understanding of family unit and should not be diminshed by corrupting verbiage.
  • Federal and state law guarentees faith-based agencies the right to make decisions that are consistent with their religious beliefs, including their beliefs about marriage and family life. This right must continue to be respected and preserved.
  • Like-minded birthparents and prospective adoptive parents cherish these beliefs as well, and have every right to work with agencies that share their values.
  • Religious liberty is foundational to our Commonwealth and our country. Corrupting it is not.
  • Forcing agencies and individuals to choose between following their own values or following the law would be an unwanted and unprecedented violation of religious freedom in Virginia.
  • Faith-based agencies provide vital services to our communities. They must be allowed to continue the great work they are doing.
  •  Take away their ability to conduct their faith-filled work, and you remove their service.
  •  We need them.
